Open the downloaded disk image and drag Umete to your Applications folder, then open it from there. Safari may not show the extension if Umete runs from anywhere else.
Follow the setup: choose AI matching (Umete, free, is the default), then turn on Umete in Safari → Settings → Extensions.
Fill in a form yourself once, click Umete in Safari’s toolbar, and choose Remember my answers.
On a form later, click Umete and choose Fill this form. Review the form, then submit it yourself; Umete never submits for you.
On iPhone and iPad
Open the Umete app and choose AI matching, then turn on Umete in Settings → Apps → Safari → Extensions.
On a form, tap the extensions button in Safari’s address bar, then Umete.
Saved answers
See, edit, and delete your answers in the Umete app under Saved Data. You can also add answers there by hand.
Add addresses and contacts, such as doctors and emergency contacts, as single entries. Umete fills each part, like the postal code or a doctor’s phone number, into the matching field.
Answers sync between your devices through iCloud. Sync can be turned off in General settings.
AI matching
Umete (free) needs no API key. Each device gets 60 requests a day, and each request covers up to 10 fields; the limit resets at midnight UTC. Local matching keeps working after the limit.
For unlimited use, add your own OpenAI or Anthropic API key in the app’s AI settings.
If a field isn’t filled
“Umete could not communicate with this page”: reload the page and try again.
Forms inside frames, such as embedded payment or sign-up forms from another site, aren’t supported.
Hidden fields are left empty on purpose, and a phone number is filled into only one field per page, unless it is a field to confirm it.
Passwords, card details, security codes, and Social Security numbers are never filled.
If answers from another device “can’t be read until that device syncs again,” open Umete on that device so iCloud Keychain can share the key.
Reporting a bug
On Mac, choose Umete → About Umete → Report a Bug…, which opens an email with diagnostics you can review first.
In the extension, Debug Logs → Email Logs… attaches what happened on the page. Logs can include page addresses and form labels.
Requirements
macOS 12 or later, or iOS or iPadOS 15 or later, with Safari.
iCloud sync needs an iCloud account with iCloud Keychain on.
